Can I afford BeachBind?

It is hard to believe, but BB can actually be comparable or even less expensive per day than a major rope con!

Rope. Cons. Travel.  We want to go to all the events, and do all the things.  Great…but oh yeah…there is that annoying money and budget thing.  Damn. We can't do everything.  Sigh.

At first glance, BeachBind looks out of budget for many. However, when you compare apples to apples, BeachBind can actually be about the same per day than a major rope conference, or at least comparable. This is because the rates for BB are all-inclusive, meaning that all food, drink, workshops, and resort activities are included.  Other than airfare and transfer to and from the airport, the nightly rate is about all there is in terms of expenses.

Compare to Major Rope Con:

  • Con registration:                                               $300

  • 4 days of hotel:                                                  $750

  • Airfare:                                                               $500

  • Food for 4 days, transportation, misc. etc.:    $275

  • Rope conference total:                                      $1,825

  • BB for 4 days including $500 airfare:                 $1,1492

  • BB for 5 days including $500 airfare:                 $1,740

In these examples, BeachBind is actually LESS expensive for four and five days than for a four day con, and thus less expensive per day.  Hard to believe, but true. The only other expenses might include a passport (if you need one), checked bag fees, optional excursions, and things you do outside of the resort, as well as airport transfer ($50).  You don't even need tip money at this resort (there is a no-tipping policy)!  Of course, most people go to BB for 7, 8 , or 9 days , so yes, you do end up paying more, but you get so much more too!

True, you can share a hotel with 3 or 4 people at another con and lower your cost, or you might be able to drive to some cons, and thus there are way to make cons much less than BeachBind. But the point is...that you can probably afford five days of BeachBind if you are planning to go to one or two major cons.

More Apples to Apples:  Size Matters.  No fighting for workshops or lines.

OH........And a beach.

BeachBind has a first class list of presenters, but only a fraction of the attendees.  At some major rope cons, there are well over 300-500 people.  The headliner may be scheduled for 3 one hour workshops in a room that holds 30-100 people.  At BB, there is no waiting in long lines or missing other workshops to get a spot in a particular class.  There will be plenty of opportunities all week for everyone to get up close and personal with all of our awesome presenters, share meals, and get extra help at presenter office hours.

Oh yeah…and the setting: a luxury all-inclusive tropical lifestyles resort on a picturesque beach?  That vs. a 3 star city hotel.  Inside and no tropical weather, trees, or a beach.  And the food is included...and it is really fucking good!
